DJ DIZZY INTERVIEW

Yes yes people. This week the Coco Electro mix is back thanks to our man DJ Dizzy; an up-and-coming DJ and producer from Vienna, Austria.

As always I asked a few questions to get to know the man behind the sound and this is what he had to say:

When did you start djing/producing? What got you into it/ why did you start?

I started collecting vinyl’s 7 years ago, shortly after I bought my first 1210’s and then everything took its courses. I improved my skills and very soon I began playing my sets in small bars. Later it wasn’t enough for me just playing tracks from other artists. I wanted to bring my own ideas on the dancefloor. This urge became stronger and 2 Years ago I seriously started producing beats.

Who/what are your major influences?

Honestly it’s hard to narrow it down to a few! I stumbled across many music genres and every one of them influenced me in a certain way, some more, some less.
Hip Hop definitely influenced me the most.

Who would you love to collaborate with? (One realistic, One fantasy)

There are many great producers out there who I’d like to work with. If I had to pick one, then probably I would choose Brenmar. I really like to play his tracks in club, I like his ideas and how he plays with grooves in his music, always on point, always crispy and the sounding is very clear and precise.
As a fantasy, I would love to spend a day in the studio together with Rick Rubin.

Vinyl, CD or digital?

It was strictly vinyl for my first three years of djing, then I started using Serato Vinyl. Never tried a CDJ.

What’s the worst thing that’s happened to you on a gig?

Last year I played at a rooftop-party in Rochester, NY. During the set the amplifier broke down twice and a bit later the police crashed the party, because somebody called them that there is a man with a gun at the roof. Nobody got hurt and the party was mad fun, so it was cool anyway ;)

What’s the best night out you’ve ever had?

Too many great nights to list them all!

Where’s your favourite place to play?  why?

Wherever you find a packed & sweaty club with a pumping soundsystem! :)

Do you think anyone can learn to DJ and/or Produce? What’s your best tip for beginners?

Yes, I think everybody can learn how to blend two tracks or to produce a beat, but I don’t think that everybody can reach the ultimate perfection. My tip for beginners is to get an idea about how big this whole music thing is and how small you are in this music-world. Practice every day and be respectful towards music!

What do you listen to most in a track?

When I’m looking for music for gigs I concentrate on the whole arrangement of a track and how it works for me in club. Mostly the tracks, which I really like to play, catch my attention in the first minute. I’m addicted to great drum/percussion-loops and interesting synths as much as stunning vocals or perfect active basslines.

What are you hoping to achieve in the long run / what’s your ambition?

Keep on working on my music every day, improving my skills in studio or on stage & I want to create my own specific “dj dizzy sound” – that’s the goal.

Where will you be playing next/ what projects do you have lined up?

There are many big things coming in the next months. I’m really looking forward to all of them. My dates and music are continuously updated on my soundcloud page. > http://soundcloud.com/dj-dizzy

What are your favourite ways to find new tracks?

Mostly I find interesting tracks via Soundcloud or certain blogs & I listen to many mixtapes!

What’s the future of Dance music? Who do you think we should keep our ears out for?

Good Question. I don’t know it myself … I guess that’s the magic thing about Dance Music ; you don’t know what will come next! For instance, think about Moombahton – I really didn’t expect that.

Why is music important?

Music is a language that everybody understands! Everybody should give music more amount of space in his life – it’s the most beautiful, honest & truthful thing in this world. The more time you attend to music, the more you will get back from it! I became happier and more even since I spend daily several hours with making music. What’s more meanwhile I cannot imagine doing something different. There’s no plan B – just music!

What are your 10 of your favourite tracks at the moment?

Benjamin Damage & Doc Daneeka – Creeper (Original Mix)
Jim-E Stack – Lemme (Original Mix)
